Starting over in Miami wasn’t a neat plan. It was a decision. Visa, ticket, plane. No contacts, no perfect English, US$700 in my pocket and a hunger I could barely contain. I slept in a hostel. Nobody knew who I was or what I had built before.
And here’s what the usual “take it easy, go slow, don’t pressure yourself” post won’t tell you: what took me to another level was the exact opposite. Pressure. Self-pressure. Massive, imperfect action, to failure.
Today I live in Downtown Miami and run King Studio AI between Miami and Buenos Aires. No magic, no shortcut. Just these six rules. If you’re about to start over, in a new city, a new industry or after something fell apart, this is for you.
What does starting over in Miami really mean?
Starting over in Miami means your skills travel with you, but your reputation, your network and your comfort zone stay behind. You start with what you know how to do and what you’re willing to do every single day. Nothing else.
That’s scary. Good. Fear tells you you’re in the right place.
1. Massive imperfect action: do it badly, but do it today
Perfection is the most elegant excuse not to start. While you wait for perfect English, the perfect website, the perfect contact, someone who knows half of what you know is already getting paid.
Rule: volume before polish. Ten imperfect messages to potential clients beat one perfect message you never sent. Post, pitch, call, show up. Fix it on the go. People who do a lot learn fast; people who only think learn nothing.
2. Pressure: burn the boats
A comfortable plan B is the fastest way to end up living in plan B. When I landed with US$700 there was no cushion. No “if it doesn’t work, I’ll go back.” That pressure was the engine, not the problem.
Rule: put yourself in situations where doing nothing isn’t an option. Commit publicly, set deadlines, charge upfront, take the challenge that feels too big and then rise to it. Pressure doesn’t break you: it shows you what you’re made of.
3. Self-pressure: nobody will push you, so push yourself
When you work for yourself there’s no boss, no schedule, nobody asking “so?”. That’s why most people fall asleep. The only pressure that really works is the one you put on yourself.
Rule: high, non-negotiable standards. Every day, at minimum:
- One deep-work block on the business before anything else
- New contacts, every day, no exceptions
- One piece of content published, even if it isn’t perfect
- Train your body: a strong mind lives in a trained body
If you missed it, it wasn’t a bad day: it was a decision. Own it and double it tomorrow.
4. To failure: like in the gym
In the gym, muscle grows in the last reps, the ones that hurt. The first ten are warm-up. Business works the same: the result lives on the other side of the point where most people quit.
Rule: when you feel you’ve given everything, do one more. One more message, one more call, one more hour. Training to failure isn’t living broken: it’s taking the set until no rep is left, recovering, and coming back stronger next time. That’s how you level up.
5. Turn your disadvantage into a weapon
Being Latino, new and without contacts looks like a weakness. It isn’t. Coming from Argentina trains you to build a lot with very little, solve problems creatively and work without a big team behind you. That’s an unfair advantage in a market used to comfort.
Rule: don’t hide where you come from, make it your positioning. Bilingual, two markets, hungry. That sells.
6. Systems to multiply action, not to rest
When you’re alone, your hours are your ceiling. That’s why I went all in on automation and AI: not to work less, but to make every hour count ten times. Auto-replies, templates, booking links, bots, my digital clone creating content while I close clients.
Rule: automate everything repetitive and use the freed time for more action, not more Netflix. Not sure where to start? See what to automate first.
Why does pressure take you to another level?
Because without pressure there’s no adaptation. Your body doesn’t change if the weight doesn’t go up, and neither do you. Comfort keeps you exactly where you are. Pressure, well directed and tied to a clear purpose, forces you to become the person who can sustain what you want to have.
But here’s the key: pressure without purpose burns you out. Pressure with purpose builds you. Mine is clear: helping entrepreneurs make a living from their own thing. That’s what gets me up when my body wants to stay in bed. I go deeper on it in the importance of having a purpose, and the full story of how I started is in from a hostel in Miami to an AI business.
Checklist to start over this week
- What imperfect action am I putting off? Do it today.
- What’s my comfortable plan B? Burn it.
- What are my non-negotiable daily minimums? Write them down.
- Where am I stopping before failure? One more rep.
- Which disadvantage can I turn into positioning?
- Which repetitive task can I automate to fit in more action?
Starting over isn’t going back to zero. You carry everything you know. What’s missing is action: a lot of it, imperfect, and now. Nobody is coming to save you. Get up and go get it.
I keep sharing the journey, unfiltered, at patricioolivera.com.

Frequently asked questions
How do you start over in Miami as an entrepreneur?
With massive action from day one: offer what you already know how to do, reach out to people every day, show up publicly and keep your costs low. Your skills travel with you; your reputation is rebuilt through volume and visible results.
Is putting pressure on yourself good for building a business?
Yes, when the pressure is tied to a clear purpose and turned into daily action. Self-pressure with high standards pulls you out of comfort and forces growth; the key is to recover and come back stronger, like in training.
What is massive imperfect action?
It means prioritizing the volume of actions over perfection: sending, posting, pitching and testing a lot, even if it isn’t perfect, and fixing things on the go. You learn faster by doing than by planning.
Ready for the next step?
If you’re going all in on finding clients, you need a website that backs up your action and systems that multiply your hours.
